Free outdoor broadcast in front of the Met.

Wow. I have read bits and pieces about “augmented reality”, but have yet to see it in action until now.

You can start to think of some of the possibilities -

  • Real estate apps that show home values, taxes and sale price by just pointing your phone at a home
  • Craigslist postings by location
  • Facebook shows where your friends are
  • Geotagged pictures that your friends took of your current location

Pretty cool stuff. Now only if I had waited to get an IPhone 3GS :(

I would definitely pledge some bucks to a website that organized all landlords and property management companies in NYC. Awesome idea, but I feel it will never happen. There is no incentive for rental property owners to help a project like this. Rentals in NYC are at such a premium that renters have little room to be choosy. If the demand (and thats a very big if) ever fell for rental properties in the city, then a reputation management system that employs a database like this could be a valuable selling point for respectable landlords looking to charge more for their property.

It seems more, like, professional, and not something that a teenager would do,” said 16-year-old Miranda Grazier. “I think I might join when I’m older.

This is a huge step forward for microbloggers. I’m sure this isn’t the first case of a Twitter user getting some traditional media access to events. Pretty cool stuff…

Nokia is entering the netbook game with the Nokia Booklet 3G. I have been toying around with the idea of picking up a netbook, but I’m not convinced that netbooks aren’t a fad. Cramped keyboards and displays and a slow processor hardly make for an enjoyable computing experience.

Watch out for the CrunchPad or the rumored applet tablet to give the netbook industry a run for its money. With the proliferation of touch screen smartphones, people are adapting quickly to the technology and might forgo an attached keyboard for the feature set that these devices will have.

If the beforementioned devices end up bombing, I could very well eat my words and pony up for one of these Nokia Booklets. It looks beautiful, has 12 hours of battery life, every kind of connectivity you would ever want, but unfortunately comes with Windows installed. If Jolicloud puts it on their supported hardware list, that would definitely sweeten the pot. We’ll see…

I saw an ESPN bit with Kenny Mayne a few weeks ago where he talks about how the 100m race is one of the most exciting events in all of sports. I have to agree.

Usain Bolt captivated the world for a little under 10 seconds last year in Beijing. He has done the same this year in Berlin. He broke world records at this year’s World Championships in both the 100m and 200m races. What I find extraordinary is the difference between his 100m and 200m times - 9.61 seconds. This means that Bolt only added .03 seconds to his pace in the second 100 meters of the 200m race. Unbelieavably fast.

I have been reading an awful lot about Chris Anderson’s new book Free: The Future of a Radical Price. Here is a really interesting case study about a golf course of all places that is instituting a variation of this idea.

If a golf course can profit from this way of thinking, why couldn’t other similar business models adapt? Every time a plane flies from New York to LA the airline pays staff, gas, runway fees, etc.. Regardless of whether one person is on the flight or 100 people are on it.

I know the answer is a lot more complicated than that, but an interesting idea none the less.

“It’s believed the new technology will cost much more than normal print ads.” - you think?

Whats really interesting is that the company that is producing these, Americhip, is also developing technologies that appeal to various senses including smell.

I have always felt that sense of smell has been neglected in marketing. It is used by plenty of businesses, but is still the “red-headed” stepschild when it comes to senses. What has been the biggest scent-marketing development in the last 100 years? Scratch and sniff stickers? It’s time for some innovation…

I absolutely love these guys. I can’t think of a better way to blow 185 bucks.
